Christopher Baines' Canadian Road Trip- Jersey, U.K. Christopher Baines is 10 and attends F.C.J. Primary School. He caught the “Minichef Bug” more than three years ago and there has been no keeping him away! Christopher loves to cook at home too and enjoys making lunch for his mum when he can. Christopher and his mum visited family (Christopher’s Great-Aunt Maureen and her daughter, Laura) in Ontario, Canada in May 2008 – it was Christopher’s first trip to Canada and he had a wonderful time visiting many places including Niagara Falls, the CN Tower and two of the Great Lakes. He also had the opportunity to do lots of cooking in Canada! Christopher’s Auntie Maureen also loves to cook so Christopher was delighted to be able to spend some time baking with her. They made a delicious Chocolate Cake and dozens of melt-in-your-mouth cookies. As well as baking with his Great-Aunt, Laura also helped Christopher make real American Pancakes (with bananas, strawberries and, of course, Canadian maple syrup) and Breakfast Burritos. Laura also arranged for her friend Deb, who is a local chef, to visit one evening to help Christopher cook dinner for the family. They made Chicken Pasta and Bruschetta, and apple crumble. Absolutely delicious! Christopher can’t imagine ever wanting to give up Mini-chefs and hopes one day to be able to help other children in Claire’s class to enjoy cooking as much as he does.
